Pergola awning for Großensee Golf Club near Hamburg
In Großensee near Hamburg, a golf club has equipped its catering area with four pergola awnings from weinor. This allows many more members and guests to use the outdoor area.
The picture-book summer of 2018 lured even the last couch potato outside. Beer gardens and restaurants with outdoor areas were booming. Well done to the restaurateur who can offer his customers a sun-protected terrace at such peak times. That's what Reinhard Diatscheschen, the captain at Großensee Golf Club, east of Hamburg, thought. He was annoyed that the terrace in front of the restaurant could not be used on hot days or in bad weather. After all, the golf club has over 1000 members. An intelligent way was therefore needed to create additional space for larger events.
Weather protection with a convertible feel
So a solution had to be found. It came in the form of four PergoTex II pergola awnings from the manufacturer weinor. Their advantage: they offer both sun and rain protection, as the PVC fabric is completely waterproof. If the weather permits, it can be fully retracted like a convertible roof so that guests can enjoy the open-air feeling above their heads. The 11 x 9.6 metre awnings were installed by the Hamburg-based sun and weather protection specialists Horst Söhl GmbH in such a way that two awnings face each other, creating a gabled roof shape. The frame of the house-side awnings is attached to the roof of the octagonal building so that no posts block the way and detract from the appearance. Söhl installed the rain gutter above the roof. A sensor automatically retracts the awning when wind force 6 is exceeded. The system is operated using a hand-held radio transmitter.
Design award-winning awning
The result is impressive. The system now creates a sheltered spot for 64 guests. "The sun protection system has clearly upgraded our catering area," says Reinhard Diatscheschen. "We can now cater for significantly more guests, achieve higher turnover and have created a place where our members and guests really feel at home." In addition to function, the attractive appearance also played a major role in choosing the right awning. Thanks to their slim design, the pergola awnings blend in unobtrusively with the unusual shape of the clubhouse building. Independent design experts also attest to the outstanding look of the weinor PergoTex II. After all, the awning received the coveted Red Dot Design Award "best of the best" 2016, which only very few products are honoured with.
