Patio roof in private residential building in Ahlen
Two elegant rectangular patio roofs enhance the home of a couple in Ahlen and add a stylish outdoor area to their living space. Thanks to the protective roofing, the patio can be used comfortably and in a variety of ways - from the first mild spring days in March until well into autumn. The patio roofs therefore not only open up additional space, but also the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors to the full, regardless of changes in the weather.
"Since we've had our patio roofs, we've been living on an island of bliss," enthuses the owner. Together with her husband, she moved into her parents-in-law's former flat on the ground floor of their Wilhelminian-style two-family home. This had been completely renovated in 2021 and a modern extension had been added that protrudes into the garden. An adjoining glass patio roof had already been designed during the planning of this extension. Together with the dark stone tiles that lead from the living room across the terrace into the garden, it creates a seamless transition between the interior and exterior spaces.
The start: good advice from a specialist
In their search for a suitable glass patio roof specialist dealer, the couple found what they were looking for at Weinor specialist dealer FRM in Ahlen. After an on-site consultation with weather protection expert Loris Uhlenbrock, the couple decided on the Terrazza Pure cubic patio roof from manufacturer Weinor. The reason: the construction impressed the clients with its timeless aesthetics and cubic shapes, which echo the linear design of the extension. Thanks to its high stability, the patio roof can also withstand heavy snow loads and can be extended into a glass oasis® using sliding glass walls if required.
Matching the architecture of the house
Thanks to a wide range of customisation options, such as the large selection of frame colours and awning fabrics, the glass canopy could be aesthetically integrated into the overall concept. "We wanted to keep the extension completely in black and white, and of course the patio roof also had to match," reports the owner. With the black frame colour and the black and white block stripe fabric of the under-glass awning, the patio roof now picks up on the look of the equally dark window frames and blends harmoniously into the design of the house.
Tailor-made weather protection for cosy hours outdoors
The patio roof in front of the living room measures 4.5 by 4 metres. An under-glass awning provides pleasant shade and ensures that the interior rooms with the large glass fronts remain well tempered and pleasantly bright even on hot days. Two infrared patio heaters extend the service life and invite you to linger outdoors even in the late evening hours. The patio roof also has dimmable ambient lighting in a variety of colours, which can be used to conjure up very special moods on the patio.
Customised design thanks to adaptable construction
One year after the first glass patio roof was built, the couple had a second system measuring around 5 x 2.4 metres erected over an open area on the mezzanine floor. The special feature: the roof was inserted into the space between the extension and the garage, which meant that it had to be attached using angle brackets. "This was a special solution," reports Loris Uhlenbrock, "but it worked very well thanks to the great flexibility of Weinor patio roofs." In addition, the practical drainage directly onto the garage roof made a separate rainwater drainage system superfluous.
Pleasant shade at the breakfast area
The raised open space, which can be accessed directly from the kitchen, has now become a declared favourite spot. "We sit here in spring when none of our neighbours are outside yet," explains the owner, "the space under the patio roof is like another living room - our dining room and cosy reading room." The two patio heaters and the under-glass awning in a block-striped look also provide comfort and style under this second canopy. In addition, a transparent dark grey vertical awning offers protection from oblique sunlight and heat build-up.
Outdoor space to feel good
The two glass patio roofs extend the living space outside and open up flowing transitions between indoor and outdoor areas. They help to enhance the value of the property and create a cosy outdoor living room. Their high-quality workmanship and resilient construction ensure many years of enjoyment. "If I had to plan again today," says the owner, "I would do everything exactly the same again!"
