Pergola awnings for a daycare centre in Luxembourg
Ten PergoTex pergola awning systems from weinor extend the play area of a day care centre in Luxembourg. Even in bad weather, the little ones can now fulfil their urge to move around. Weinor specialist partner Ziewers Wintergarten GmbH was responsible for the installation.
Children need lots of exercise and fresh air. But what use is the most beautiful outdoor area if the weather doesn't play ball? Then, for better or worse, the kids have to stay indoors. The Maison Relais Renert childcare centre in Berbourg, Luxembourg, was faced with precisely this problem. The 250 or so boys and girls at the centre only had limited space inside to play. Although there was a large outdoor area with a terrace and playground, it could only be used when the weather was dry. The need for movement was therefore strictly limited. In addition, the rooms of the daycare centre faced south. In the warmer half of the year, they became unpleasantly hot. So the decision was made to install a system that offers reliable protection from above and can therefore extend the use of the terrace by the children. in 2015, weinor's specialist partner Ziewers Wintergarten GmbH was awarded the contract to realise a weather protection system.
Protection for inside and outside
Managing Director Werner Ziewers had just the right solution at hand. He offered the facility a pergola awning PergoTex from weinor. At an on-site meeting, a Ziewers employee presented the weather protection concept. The folding awning serves as a patio cover and its waterproof fabric keeps the patio dry even when it rains. At the same time, PergoTex offers reliable sun protection - not only on the patio to protect the children from too much harmful UV light, but also in the interior areas, where it helps to maintain a moderate temperature and thus improve the indoor climate. If more light is required on the patio or in the rooms, the pergola awning is simply raised. The ten systems can be conveniently operated together or individually using a hand-held radio transmitter.
Professionally installed
The two local authorities responsible for the educational facility, Bech and Manternach, collectively known as Synecosport, were very impressed by the solution. They therefore decided in favour of the Weinor weather protection system. In two construction phases, the terrace of one building complex was first fitted with the pergola awning, followed some time later by the other part of the building. In total, the terrace was covered over a length of around 50 metres. There were a few challenges to overcome. Firstly, installation on the external wall was out of the question, as the insulating façade was not to be damaged. So only a self-supporting construction was feasible. In addition, a support post had to be attached to a wall. The Ziewers team overcame all the hurdles with ease and installed the pergola awnings to the complete satisfaction of everyone involved. "It's great to see that our children now have much more space to play and can spend longer periods of time in the fresh air, even in winter or when the weather is not so nice in the warmer months. The awning construction is a clear improvement in the quality of life and work for children and teachers alike," says Diana Gliebe, head of the centre.
