Glass oasis for a loft in Hamburg
In the northern German metropolis, a couple have equipped their roof terrace with a Glasoase® from the manufacturer weinor. It allows the couple to use their outdoor area for much longer and enjoy a well-protected view of the Hamburg skyline.
The wind blows differently in the northern German metropolis than further south in the country - and it is also much stronger. It can be quite unpleasant, especially when you are at lofty heights. A Hamburg couple realised this after buying a beautiful penthouse flat in the Barmbek district. The view from the fifth floor is breathtaking. However, on most days it was impossible to spend any length of time on the spacious roof terrace without wrapping up in a coat and blanket. So the two Hamburgers had to find some kind of weather protection that would allow them to stay outside for longer.
Sliding glass elements, full transparency
Roman Chamier, Managing Director of the Hamburg-based company stil & handwerk, presented the perfect solution in the form of a Glasoase® from weinor. It has sliding glass elements that can be opened or closed completely as required. Its large-scale glazing, which does not require a large number of disturbing posts, allows a clear view outside and more light to enter. The profiles of the weinor Glasoase® are made of non-insulated aluminium. For good reason, because they are very stable and at the same time impress with their graceful appearance and maximum transparency. The clients Christiane and Marko Bösing were immediately hooked and their enthusiasm infected three other neighbours who also wanted to buy a Glasoase®. This also allowed them to share the cost of the crane that had to lift the heavy glass and frame elements onto the roof of the building.
Indispensable sun protection
To prevent the interior from heating up too much when the sun is shining, the Glasoase® is designed to allow air to circulate between the panes of glass. An additional awning under the roof ensures pleasant temperatures inside even when the sun is shining. This is why the Glasose® was supplemented with the Sottezza II OptiStretch awning fitted underneath. The installation below the roof protects it from wind and rain. At the same time, the fabric, which has a very large surface area thanks to this type of installation, creates a cosy atmosphere on the patio. It sits firmly in the transport profile - just like a zip fastener. This ensures a taut fabric without any fabric edges hanging over the sides. In addition, dimmable LED spotlights are integrated into the awning cassette via a hand-held transmitter. They bathe the patio in a pleasant light. The Tempura Quadra heating system, which is attached to the inside of the frame construction, provides warmth on cooler days.
New centre of life
"The new weather protection has meant that we spend much more time outside, even when the weather isn't great or the wind is blowing strongly," says Marko Bösing. "The roof terrace quickly became the centre of our lives, where we can now spend much more time alone or with friends." And this new centre could even be expanded. The Bösings had only covered six metres on the left-hand side in the first stage. The significantly increased quality of life quickly gave rise to the idea of roofing over the rest of the terrace as well. No sooner said than done: one year later, the entire eleven metres were equipped with the elegant weather protection including awning and LED lighting, so that the couple now enjoy an attractive, spacious and well-protected outdoor area.
