Patio roof for a catering property in Cologne
For over 20 years, the Playa event location in Cologne has been inviting guests to celebrate and enjoy sporting activities. Operator Lars Meyer has developed it from a pure beach volleyball facility into an establishment with a permanent beer garden. This required a resilient patio cover that could be flexibly adapted to the weather situation. In spring 2019, the choice fell on the new Artares louvre roof from Weinor, which now spans an impressive 160m2.
Originally, the beer garden was protected by a temporary roof that had to be moved depending on the season and weather conditions. As this was time-consuming and impractical, it was to be replaced by a permanent but flexible weather protection. Sun protection, rain protection and a stylish appearance were the requirements for the roof construction. "We needed a canopy that would fulfil the highest requirements," reports operator Meyer, "but it wasn't easy to find something that was really functional and visually appealing."
Great climate thanks to intelligent slat solution
Stefan Brüggemann, Product Manager at sun and weather protection expert Weinor, provided the idea for the right product: "The weather in northern Europe is very changeable - the Artares louvre roof is the perfect answer to this. Thanks to its robust construction and flexible options, it's a great way to combine rain protection and sun protection."
"It was also important to us that guests don't get too warm under the sun protection," adds Lars Meyer. Thanks to the intelligent slat technology, the Artares patio cover offers exactly the right solution. If it gets too hot, the slats can be opened a crack, the warm air escapes upwards and the temperature under the roof remains pleasant - air conditioning the natural way.
If, on the other hand, it gets cool for guests, integrated radiant heaters, which fit perfectly into the overall look with their rectangular design, warm the space under the louvred roof. They use infrared technology to provide pleasant instant heat. Vertical shading, which can be operated by radio control just like the louvres and patio heaters, protects against glare from the low sun. They also keep the heat on the patio for longer. "With the radiant heaters and vertical shading, we extend the summer and are no longer as dependent on the weather as before," reports Lars Meyer. The outdoor bar under the stylish slatted roof is also popular in autumn and winter.
Atmospheric lighting for a discerning audience
Lars Meyer was particularly impressed by the coloured LED lighting under the slatted roof. "We had considered working with indirect lighting beforehand," reports the operator, "then the louvred roof was installed and when the lights were switched on, we discarded the old plan - the lighting was so beautiful!"
Colour LED strips on the parapet and the posts of the roofing bathe the ambience in atmospheric light with a huge spectrum of dimmable colours. LED strips with warm white light at the bottom of the slats always provide the right illumination for the scenery. Everything can be operated by radio control with a hand-held transmitter. "It's easy to operate," reports Lars Meyer, "and playing with light and shade is great fun!" However, he is even more satisfied with the response from visitors to the louvred roof: "Our guests are thrilled!"
