Louvred roof in a private garden in Cologne
Owner Michael Fahnert has created a very special outdoor living room in the Langel district of Cologne. In the centre of his large garden, a cubic louvred roof covers the rectangular pool and the modern seating area. Equipped with many extras for even more comfort and atmosphere, the architectural gem from the manufacturer Weinor transforms the area into a personal dream terrace.
The shadows cast by the half-opened slats create interesting contrasts of light and dark on the terrace and the surface of the pool. It is precisely this lighting atmosphere that Michael Fahnert particularly enjoys. It is reminiscent of the shadow play of southern blinds and exudes Mediterranean flair in a Rhineland setting. "With its linear design, the cubic enclosure fits very well into our garden," reports the client.

As an outdoor enthusiast, Michael Fahnert spends almost every day in his garden and had long wanted reliable sun and weather protection made in Germany. Now, when it rains, he can simply close his louvre roof using a hand-held transmitter and continue to spend time on the patio well protected. Always a good climate
Not only the amount of light, but also the temperature under the louvred roof can be regulated by radio control. If it gets too hot, Michael Fahnert simply opens the slats and the heated air flows upwards through the roof. This means he can easily control the climate on his patio by adjusting the degree to which the louvres are open. Rainwater is drained into gutters via the slightly sloping roof and downwards through posts.
Automatic control via sensor technology
For added safety, the Artares patio cover is also equipped with a weather sensor that closes the slatted roof from a set threshold value if there is too much sun or rain. In sub-zero temperatures and when there is a risk of frost, the automatic system brings the slats into a slightly tilted position so that they cannot freeze together. The slats also open automatically in snow to reduce the load on the roof.
Sun protection and privacy thanks to vertical shading
Michael Fahnert has equipped his louvred roof with vertical shading to "protect himself from prying eyes or the sun from the side" They are also controlled via the hand-held transmitter and instantly provide more privacy and perfect protection when the sun is low in the sky. The vertical shading can also be used to create a cosy atmosphere in the evening. An ingenious design ensures that the side awnings disappear completely into the parapet, i.e. the roof edge, when retracted.
Pure atmosphere
The louvred roof creates interesting visual effects not only during the day. As Michael Fahnert also likes to enjoy the evening in the garden, he is delighted with the wide range of colour moods that are possible with his patio roof. The posts and the parapet of his slatted roof are fitted with high-quality coloured LED strips, which enable a huge range of dimmable colours, while LED strips in the slats spread warm white light. Both can be easily operated by radio control. "It's very important to me to have this option," emphasises the owner. "Depending on the mood or occasion, I choose the colour that suits me best."
