Sliding glass wall improves weather protection
The Göllners were in seventh heaven when they were able to move into their long-awaited new home. Finally, there was enough space for all family members and the guest room could also accommodate visitors. Just as important as the house was the garden and the large terrace, which finally allowed them to spend a lot of their free time outdoors - something the whole family had wanted.
Without further ado, a specialist company from the region was commissioned to erect a glass roof over half of the terrace. They then decorated and designed it, and soon the piece of paradise that everyone had been looking forward to had been created. However, it seemed as if the Göllner family had done the maths without the landlord. The weather was very changeable. Rain showers, which would not have been critical, were driven straight under the roof by the wind.
Now the first thoughts began as to what could be done to better protect the terrace and the covered area. It soon became clear that we would not be able to find a solution that would suit everyone without consultation. The company HELÖ Wintergartenbau from nearby Hilden was contacted and Managing Director Regina Kuckenberg sent her husband Lutz Kuckenberg to the site.
Klaus Göllner reports on this first contact: "Mr Kuckenberg was at our door right on time. He first took a close look at the site and asked us questions about the planned construction project. I immediately noticed that he listened to us very carefully. Our answers were still very vague because we knew roughly what we wanted but couldn't really name it. In the subsequent discussion, the specialist then went through various solutions with us until he finally presented something that we liked straight away: the w17 easy all-glass sliding door system. This solution combined all our requirements in terms of weather protection with transparency and guaranteed easy opening and closing. So it's ideal for making yourself cosy and protected or for keeping it fresh and airy when the weather is right."
For Italian moments
As a substructure, the w17 easy glass sliding wall is suitable for almost all types of roofing and impresses with its simple installation, easy cleaning and convenient operation. One of the highlights of the w17 easy is the soft-closing system. It ensures that even large glass panels can be moved very quietly and easily without great effort. The system can be supplemented with a retract and park option. With the pull-in option, the glass element is closed with support, similar to a kitchen drawer. This gentle pulling action simplifies the closing process. To make it easier to open the glass elements completely, weinor has developed the park option. It slows down the opening process and fixes the glass sash securely in the end position. A further development for gentle closing is the catch function, which uses high-quality stainless steel rollers to ensure gentle damping of the sash movement.
Easy cleaning, barrier-free transitions
Other advantages of the w17 easy include new floor tracks and floor connection profiles. There is a standard version of the floor tracks with a visible height of 26 millimetres. It has something very special to offer: the CleanCase. This is a recess at the end of the rail. Dirt can easily be swept into the CleanCase using a hand brush or cleaning cloth and then removed to the outside via an opening. Water is also reliably drained away via the CleanCase. Weinor also offers an optional flat rail with a visible height of 13 millimetres. It enables a barrier-free transition from the inside to the outside - an important plus point that can be a deciding factor for many end users.
Attractive appearance - clever locking system
With two floor connection profiles in angled and straight versions, a perfect transition to existing substrates is also possible. The sliding glass walls can be fitted with high-quality powder-coated or stainless steel handles, a circular bolt lock and a standard locking system. The design of the handles, profiles and lock follows the trend towards modern, clean lines and a screwless look. Weinor has developed a simple and robust locking system to ensure that the fully closed glass sashes remain reliably in the desired position. A little pressure with the foot is all it takes to lock the w17 easy securely in place and open it again. Whether handles, lock or profiles: The entire system can be uniformly coated in over 200 colours and can therefore be perfectly matched to the existing architecture.
Glazing withstands first challenge
Once the decision in favour of the sliding glass wall had been made, Lutz Kuckenberg came to take the technical measurements. All the relevant data was recorded using a laser and transferred directly into sketches. And once the final details had been clarified, the order was sent to the manufacturer. Once the system had been installed and had already survived its baptism of fire in the wake of hurricane Friederike on 18 January 2018, the client Klaus Göllner had nothing but praise for it. "Although the hurricane hit Ratingen hard, everything on the terrace remained intact this time - including the sliding glass wall." He was also impressed by the team's performance during assembly: "The team turned up absolutely on time. The preparations were completed silently and in no time at all. The team worked hand in hand - perfectly coordinated. Before I knew it, the individual work processes had been completed."
