Conservatory awnings

Whether summer or winter – we like being outdoors. But enjoying life under the glass patio roof or in the conservatory for longer requires a solution which compensates both warmer and cooler temperatures. Our awnings for conservatories are ideal in this respect! In the summer under the glass roof, they provide pleasant sun protection against the heat. The room which is shaded by the awning does not heat up as fast, especially with a roof-mounted conservatory awning. This reduces the need for fans and air-conditioning, thus enabling some energy savings. In winter, our conservatory awnings (abbreviated as: WGM) provide good glare protection as required. However, the awning can also stay retracted on sunny winter days, so that heat-generating solar rays can heat up the conservatory or the house. In combination with your conservatory, the sun shading provides a place to relax with pleasant temperatures throughout the year – especially in summer. See for yourself now!

Conservatory sun protection for your patio

An unheated conservatory encloses your patio with high-quality glass elements. The aluminium profile and glass surfaces are consciously not heat-insulated here, but can provide a feeling of protection with heating elements during the cooler seasons.

As opposed to the unheated conservatory, heated conservatories are designed for use as extended living space throughout the year. That is why they are often also described as living conservatories.

Our conservatory awnings provide a superb addition to both versions as well as most glass patio roofs – even those which have already been installed. Conservatory awnings adorn and shade your patio roof, thus regulating temperatures naturally. The weinor awning fabrics are attached beneath the patio roof or installed securely above the glass roofing.

Undermounted conservatory awnings offer perfect sun protection: In summer, the awning provides pleasant shade; in winter, it lets the sun’s warmth into the conservatory. It also lends the room a textile, homely atmosphere.

Roof-mounted conservatory awnings keep the heat out and provide fantastic sun and glare protection. Nonetheless, the patio area is still flooded with as much light as you like.

Conservatory awnings at weinor: Find the model which meets your needs!

At weinor, we have two conservatory sun protection models: attached or undermounted conservatory awnings. Both patio awning models are extended and retracted electrically. There is no gear drive; they can be easily operated by remote control and smartphone.

On-glass awnings

This conservatory awning model is installed on the glass roof. As a result, the glass roof is protected against the sun from above You can find this roof-mounted awning in our offer:

  • The WGM Top is a roof-mounted conservatory awning which can be combined with virtually any roof construction.

Awnings under glass

Undermounted awnings are installed beneath the glass roof. This provides additional protection for the awning fabric against rain water. We offer the following awnings under glass at weinor:

  •  Sottezza Originale is an undermounted conservatory awning with a round design which augments the classical roof designs ideally and ensures feel-good temperatures as well as a homely atmosphere.
  • Sottezza Pure as a cubic version matches linear roofs perfectly, otherwise it has the same functionality.

Are you looking for sun protection with high-quality technology and an attractive design? Our weinor retailers will assist you with professional advice so you can find an awning which meets all your needs.

Best materials for long-lasting pleasure

We work with fabric tensioning and top quality stable aluminium profiles. The fabrics awnings for the conservatory awnings are not only available with more than 170 different patterns, they are also manufactured using high-quality spinneret-dyeing. This means that the pigment is already embedded in the fibre during the spinning process, which explains why the final awning fabric retains its colour brilliance for a long time. Moreover, you can select from more than 200 frame colours.

Stability comes first for our patio roofs, followed by elegant design. The load-bearing aluminium frames meet the German and European quality standards. They are installed for you by our trained weinor retailers.

A perfect match for your home – conservatory awnings in various sizes

Our objective is to bring more enjoyment to your patio and to make your individual design dreams come true. That is why we also supply our conservatory awnings in individual sizes, fully adapted to your installation situation. Together with our experienced weinor retailers, we design an awning which meets your expectations – pertaining to colour, design and, of course, the perfect dimensions:

The roof-mounted weinor WGM Top awning features …

  • a maximum width of 6.5 metres at a projection of 5 metres
  • a maximum projection of 6 metres at a width of up to 6 metres
  • a maximum surface of 36 m2 (single-part).

By the way, larger surfaces can be protected against the sun using multi-section units which can be extended without any limits.

Our Sottezza II and Sottezza Pure have a reliable rope-tensioning system for even tension distribution. The under glass awnings feature …

  • A maximum width of 6 metres
  • A maximum projection of 5 metres
  • A maximum surface of 24 m2 or 30 m2 (depending on the type of guide for the awning fabric).

Here, larger surfaces can also be protected against the sun using multi-section units.

Features of our awnings for your conservatory

Our awnings provide both sun and glare protection. This has two advantages:

1. The conservatory awning provides conservatory sun protection and protects you against the sun’s rays before they find their way through the glass. Therefore, your awning ensures pleasant room temperatures.

2. When retracted, it ensures that the sun’s rays penetrate the glass and your conservatory also has a pleasant temperature with the natural heat of the sun during the cold season.

If you connect the weather sensors to the motorised awnings, you do not even need to activate a button: Our conservatory awning WGM Top can extend and retract independently when it is stormy, windy or the sun is strong.

The proven OptiStretch system ensures flawless fabric positioning for the WGM and Sottezza conservatory awnings. It is firmly tensioned on all sides and needs no light apertures. Also, the cheaper Stretch version convinces with good fabric positioning and a small light gap at the sides.

Would you like to spend the entire day on your patio? If so, you can also order your conservatory or patio roof with a Sottezza with dimmable LED lights and have matching infrared outdoor heating installed. This also maintains a pleasant outdoor temperature during the cold season.

The most important questions regarding conservatory awnings summarised

We know that several questions can arise before purchasing a roof awning. We have collected some of them for you so that you need not research further. If you have any further questions, you are welcome to call our weinor retailers.

Is it possible to install a conservatory awning on my patio roof at a later date?

Later installation of our roof-mounted or undermounted awnings for conservatories and patio roofs is normally always possible.. Do you already have a conservatory or patio roof and would like more shade? In principle, our conservatory awnings are suitable for use with all manufacturers’ heated and unheated conservatories. Our weinor retailers calculate the precise dimensions of your awning and pursue your requested individual design. Therefore, you can discuss technical anomalies, individual dimensions or colours.

How is a conservatory awning installed?

Your new awning will be installed professionally and in accordance with your wishes by our trained weinor retailers. They always proceed in accordance with the current building regulations. Cassette awnings are normally installed on an existing building wall. For conservatory awnings, this depends on the model you prefer. In this case, the WGM Top awning is fitted to the roof of your conservatory using stable brackets, whilst Sottezza Original and Sottezza Pure are attached under the glass roof. Your weinor retailer helps you to select the right model.

How are conservatory awnings cleaned?

If required, you can clean our awning fabrics quite simply yourself. We have a few cleaning tips for you:

  • You can vacuum light soiling and loose dirtsuch as pollen easily with your vacuum cleaner’s upholstery brush.
  • Persistent soiling can be soaked a little with a cloth and clear, lukewarm water (max. 40 °C) and then removed.
    • If required, you can add some mild detergent to the water. Please do not rub it in, instead apply it with a sponge and then let it take effect.
    • Rinse the now clean area thoroughly with clean water.
    • Let the awning fabric dry properly before retracting it again.

Conservatory Awnings: Good to know before you buy!

Benefit from the experience of our weinor retailers – up-to-date, professional and practical!

What to do when it's freezing?
Chevron Down

It is better not to operate the conservatory awning in frosty conditions to prevent damaging any frozen components. However, if this is necessary in practice: it is better to keep an eye on the system! So you can stop quickly if something is frozen and prevent any damage. Our tip: Switch off the weather sensors on your product in frosty conditions to prevent it retracting and extending when you are not at home.

And in windy conditions?
Chevron Down

Conservatory awnings can also withstand higher wind speeds (please see the product data for details). Despite this, it is better to retract the awning before strong winds develop and keep it closed. This reduces the risk of your awning being damaged by strong gusts of wind. If you supplement your system with a wind sensor, it will do this job for you.

It’s best to avoid wetness
Chevron Down

The awning’s basic function is to protect against sunlight and heat. It’s better to retract your sun protection when it’s raining. As wet fabrics may develop more wrinkling, water and mildew stains. It is also possible that honeycomb patterns may appear. If your conservatory awning does happen to get damp, it is best to extend it to dry out as soon as the weather has improved.

Fabrics react to the environment
Chevron Down

Fabrics reach to external conditions. If it is dry or damp, warm or cold outside, the awning fabric may shrink or expand – only minimally of course. The size of the system also plays a part. These external factors may cause waves and folds in the fabric. These folds are quite normal though and do not damage the awning.

Wrinkling – no need to worry!
Chevron Down

Some irregularities simply cannot be avoided due to environmental and production reasons – for example, creases, bulging and wrinkling due to the different winding diameter on the roller tube. Rippling and overstretching in the seam area or honeycombing may also occur. But we can reassure you: you are dealing with a high-performance fabric – small blemishes do not impair its functionality. They are therefore not a reason for rejection or grounds for complaint. More information at www.weinor.com/fabric_qualities.

Quiet but not silent
Chevron Down

What one person finds loud and disturbing is barely perceptible to another. This also applies to the creaking noises your product makes. When the temperature changes, your conservatory awning’s material expands or contracts – a natural process that cannot be avoided. Noise also occurs when retracting and extending the awning, which can be louder or quieter depending on the building situation. In any case, the creaking and running noises do not affect your conservatory awning’s functionality.

Keeping an eye on the product
Chevron Down

You should take a closer look at your conservatory awning every now and then: does everything look good and is it all firmly in place? If you notice anything wrong, contact your retailer. But even if you don’t notice anything wrong, we recommend having your conservatory awning serviced annually.
It is advisable to clean your construction at least once a year, or even twice a year in the case of heavy use. Please refer to our “10 tips on awning fabrics” brochure for this.
Our tip: If you are not at home for a longer period of time, retract your conservatory awning and simply switch the automatic system to “OFF”. This will avoid the awning from being retracted and extended unsupervised.

The awning that grows with you
Chevron Down

If, after installing your conservatory awning, you find that you would like to have even more comfort after all, additional products are available within weinor’s modular system and are easy to retro fit. Whether it is an automatic weather system, a heating system, lighting or a new fabric – everything fits perfectly together. The additional options do of course have technical limits. Fortunately, these are just exceptions, which we are working on …

Reliably weather sensitive
Chevron Down

Even if you don't have your conservatory awning in sight, weather sensors ensure that your radio-controlled awning can automatically extend when the sun is shining and retracts again when it is rainy or windy. As a result, the climate on the patio and indoors remains more pleasant. The risk of water or storm damage to your product can be reduced with the right sensor.

Compensating joints
Chevron Down

For an awning to work properly, all the components must work together in harmony. Even minor unevenness on the house wall can mean that awnings do not run as smoothly as they should. weinor awnings react to the condition of the installation surface and compensate for this if necessary. The joints that then appear do not have a negative effect on your awning’s function though – quite the opposite!
