There's sun protection up the mountain

The Pierer family, owners of the 4-star superior Almwellness Hotel Pierer on Austria's Teichalm in the Almenland nature park, opted for sun protection from weinor. Guests have been enjoying the alpine panorama from the hotel patio well protected from UV light since July 2016.

Sunlight is much more intensive in the mountains than at lower altitudes. As the path of the solar light to earth is shorter and the atmosphere can intercept fewer rays. UV exposure increases by up to 20 percent per 1,000 metres altitude. The reflection of the rays can even be up to 80 percent with surfaces covered in snow. People's eyes and skin in particular are exposed as a result. Sunglasses and creams for skiers and hikers can provide assistance here. An awning protects anyone stopping for a rest and a snack best.

Awnings for outdoor areas

This was also obvious to the Pierer family, whose 4-star superior hotel is situated at approximately 1,200 metres altitude. They take care of all their customers' concerns with a great deal of love and commitment. Which is why there is now also a high-quality awning construction on the spacious patio area besides the Alm spa, panoramic pool, first-class dining, lovely furnished rooms and perfect service. As a result, guests can enjoy the magical alpine scenery in good weather without being exposed to the sun themselves.

Made-to-measure special construction

Choosing the right awning wasn't as easy. Which is why we sought advice from the expert Andreas Zisler, CEO of Climafix, the specialist company for sun and all-weather protection. In particular, he pointed out the stronger winds at the lofty heights where the Hotel Pierer is situated. Folding arm awnings were therefore out of the question as they frequently have to already be retracted with wind force 4 for the construction not to be damaged. The expert Zisler recommended a special construction by the manufacturer weinor.

Double awning with heating system

The challenge lay in placing the sun protection so that it fit precisely over the open area between the conservatory, main entrance and parapet. The basic construction was used of a free-standing Duofix double awning where awnings can be mounted to both sides. This glazing element was supplemented by conservatory awnings from weinor, which can be mounted better to the parapet and conservatory roof.°The construction was supplemented with eight heating systems from the weinor Tempura range so that hotel and restaurant guests also feel comfortable under the awning on cooler evenings.

Theresia Pierer, Head of Reception at the traditional, idyllic hotel on the Teichalm, values the new awning construction: "The Pierer name stands for hospitality and quality in the region. This can now be substantiated once again by our superb quality patio with customised sun protection. A huge thank you to the specialist company Climafix, which did really fantastic work here."
